Pizzeria Mozza…do indulge

Pizzeria Mozza, Newport Beach

I hope your holidays were beyond wonderful. Mine were full of beautiful family, delicious meals and let’s be honest here- way too many sweets. Christmas weekend was a bit tough on the whole healthy eating lifestyle as well as the waisteline so as Monday, December 26 rolled around, the hubs and I hit the tarmac {as my Papa bear always says} and the weight room trying to burn off even a smidgen of the calories we devoured the day(s) before. We felt exhausted, yet rejuvenated after our workout {the oddness of exercise, huh?}, had a fresh spinach and crimini mushroom omelet and headed out to run errands galore and fight the post-Christmas shopping mayhem.

For lunch, we made reservations at an awesome little restaurant in Newport Beach, Pizzeria Mozza. Listed on Jonathon Gold’s 99 Essential LA Restaurants and opened by Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich, Mozza carries a classy hustle and bustle vibe with delicious Italian dishes. From eggplant caponata and mozza caprese to prosciutto deparma and gourmet paninis, I can pretty much guarantee you will love anything you chose. They have an assortment of pizzas cooked to perfection in a wood-burning oven. We got the Margherita pizza which is one of my favorites. Something about the tomato-mozzarella-basil combo just blows my mind. Seriously people, the body of the pizza was so perfectly thin with flavors just bursting forth and the crust…OH the crust. It was the work of the wood-burning oven that so eloquently puffed and bubbled that dough. Oh, if only I could re-create this dough at home. Well, maybe it’s better that I can’t. Yes.

Anyway, the ambiance was soft, yet exciting as server’s wizzed by and the clatter of the chef’s cooking away in the open kitchen filled the air. Even on a Monday afternoon we had to make reservations and most tables were full. In my opinion, that says something. Mozza has gotten amazing reviews by food critics and foodies galore and is definitely worth making some afternoon or evening reservations for. Enjoy!
